International Scientific Conference Slavic Readings

“Slavic Readings” is an international research conference organized by Daugavpils University’s Faculty of Humanities. The conference, which has been held since 1996, takes place every year in May. Academics from many different countries share the outcomes of their research and participate in discussions on various topics: the development of the Russian language, its study and teaching, Russian literature and culture within the context of other Slavic cultures and European culture in general.

September 23 – 24, 2021

The conference organizers issue a call for papers on topical problems in Russian and Slavic studies aiming to discuss the trends of the development of the Russian language, literature and culture in a multilingual context. The work of the conference groups is planned to be organized in two directions:

  • Actual problems of Russian and Slavic studies (scientific aspect).
  • The Russian language, literature and culture in a multilingual context (pragmatic aspect).

Conference papers are published in the collection “Slavic Readings”.

Practical aspects of the study of the Russian language, literature and culture in a foreign language environment, as well as the pedagogy of these subjects in Russia, Europe and the USA, have already been discussed at this conference for several years alongside theoretical issues.

Daugavpils University’s Department of Russian and Slavic Studies is the lead organizer of “Slavic Readings.” The conference receives support from Daugavpils City Council, Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia, and “Learn Russian in the European Union” (SIA LatInSoft).

Working languages of the conference are Russian, English and Latvian. Conference materials are published as collections of scientific articles mentioned in “Slavic Readings,” and are distributed to scientific libraries in EU and CIS states.
