Academic year 2021/2022 in-person study abroad programs and the pandemic

First of all, in Academic year 2021/22, “Learn Russian in the EU” Russian study abroad programs hosted at Daugavpils University are going to be provided in-person.

Crossing the EU external border and arriving in Latvia.

The COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted almost all study abroad programs worldwide. The European Union has restricted foreign nationals to cross the external borders.

However, for students there is an exception in the EU external border crossing rules. The restrictions do not apply to full-time program students if a higher education institution or college has issued a written certification on the matriculation of the student and organization of studies on site (see paragraph 37.9 of the Republic of Latvia Cabinet Regulation No. 360 “Epidemiological Safety Measures for the Containment of the Spread of COVID-19 Infection”).

“Learn Russian in the EU” ensures all students enrolled in our Russian study abroad programs will obtain a written certification on the matriculation at Daugavpils University. This document will allow a student to enter the European Union and arrive in Daugavpils for studies in Academic year 2021/2022.

All students have to fill the Arrival Confirmation Form at https://covid19.gov.lv/en/support-society/careful-travel/covidpasslv-arrival-confirmation-form in advance.

Dates for the Academic year 2021/2022 study abroad programs:

  • Start date Monday, September 1, 2021.
  • End date Friday, December 17, 2021.
  • The application deadline is August 14, 2021.
  • The program fee (50%) due December 20, 2021.
  • The program fee second installment (50%) due October 20, 2021.

Self-isolation period upon arrival in Latvia

A self-isolation for 10 days will be required for all students. During this period, a student can stay with the host family with a full board service. The self-isolation rules are quite simple and easy to follow.

Optional pre-semester Russian course

“Learn Russian in the EU” offers optional pre-semester Russian courses at different levels during January 4 – January 29, 2022. These courses will be available online and in-person and will help students brush-up their language skills before entering the semester. Students can join as soon as they arrive.

Plan your arrival

Considering the self-isolation requirement and the pre-semester Russian courses, we recommend students to arrive any day between January 3 and January 19, 2022.

Airport-pickup and transfer to the host family service will be provided.

Additional costs

The full board lodging with a host family during the self-isolation and optional pre-semester Russian lessons will be charged separately.
