Who can study Russian online with “Learn Russian in the EU”

“Learn Russian in the EU” considers online instruction is more efficient for students with at least elementary Russian language knowledge (alphabet, basic vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and reading), but we can consider absolute beginners as well.

The language of instruction may be English or Russian, depending on the student’s skills level and preferences.

The minimum student age is 18 years.

Customized program for each student

Each student can maximize training outcomes by customizing the program content and logistics.

Currently, “Learn Russian in the EU” offers two online study options:

Depending on the selected option, the program parameters and content can be adjusted towards the target language level, lesson schedule, areas in grammar or communication, and even literature, political science, history, and other topics to be covered.

Each student can build a “dream program” that “Learn Russian in the EU” will try to implement.

In the registration form, the student specified her/his time zone and preferred lesson time options. We will consider this information when preparing class schedules.

Our teachers

All our teachers are passionate, experienced and knowledgeable native Russian language speakers. They possess Master or PhD degree in the Russian language pedagogy, Russian linguistics, or Russian literature. As a rule, our language teachers are fluent English speakers.

Many our teachers are Daugavpils University professors that have worked with numerous international students on “Learn Russian in the EU” study abroad programs.

Virtual study abroad

“Learn Russian in the EU” designed full-featured virtual study abroad programs and a set of flexible virtual study abroad components that may be integrated into Russian curriculum at home colleges in the Fall 2020 semester.

University teachers can greatly improve student motivation, inclusivity, experience, and progress by adding virtual study abroad to their Russian courses.

Russian language placement test

If you are an absolute beginner, the placement test is not required.

After submitting the registration form, please complete the Russian language placement test in order to provide our teachers information on your actual skills level.

The placement test requires 30 minutes to complete.

What technology is in use

Of course, your device should be equipped with a camera, microphone and audio output (speakers, headset).

We highly recommend using a desktop computer, a laptop, or a tablet for remote lessons. Using a smartphone is less convenient and may worsen your learning experience.

“Learn Russian in the EU” uses Zoom as the online teaching platform (Zoom.us). Before starting the lessons, please sign up for a free Basic account in Zoom and install the Zoom application.

After receiving the initial purchase and student’s registration data, we set up a personal student account at students.learnrussianineu.com.

We suggest using the student account for

  • Receiving schedules.
  • Obtaining Zoom links for joining classes.
  • Purchasing further lesson packs.

Registering for a Russian language individual online course

The registration for a Russian language individual online course includes several steps:

  1. First of all, please submit the course application form:
  1. Please complete the Russian language placement test, if you are not an absolute beginner.
  2. Please make the initial purchase at Costs for Online Russian Courses.
  3. Upon receiving the application form and the placement test, we will set up your student account and send you the login details.
  4. You will use the student account at students.learnrussianineu.com to see the date/time of the trial session, lesson schedule, and Zoom links for connecting with the teacher.
  5. On the date/time of your trial session, please connect with the teacher in Zoom. During this session, you and the teacher will clarify your current language level, discuss and finalize your course content, and test out all aspects of online language learning with us before we get on with the program.
  6. If you are satisfied with the free trial session and decide to start the course, please follow the schedule. Otherwise, please notify us by e-mail about your cancellation of the course and request a refund.

Free trial session in the beginning of the course

The free trial session is provided to new students in the beginning of the course. It helps the student and “Learn Russian in the EU” clarify the student’s current language level, discuss and finalize the course content, and test out all aspects of online language learning with us before we get on with the program.

For example, if the course starts with a 10 lessons purchase, the student will get the free trial session and 10 lessons.

Lesson duration

The lesson duration is 45 minutes. As a rule, lessons start on the top of the hour.
The free trial session is 30 minutes.

Lesson schedule

“Learn Russian in the EU” is based in Daugavpils, Latvia (UTC+2 time zone) and works extended hours from 8:00 to 22:00 local time.

In the application form, the student specified her/his time zone and preferred lesson time options. We will consider this information when preparing class schedules.

Students receives the schedule through their student accounts at students.learnrussianineu.com. The schedule includes lesson dates/times and Zoom links for connecting with the teacher.

In case a new student receives the first schedule, it starts with the free trial session.

As a rule, we re-adjust schedules weekly. The schedule for the upcoming week is prepared in the end of the previous week and is made available through the student account.

Mode of instruction

All instruction is fully synchronous and happens in real time at scheduled days/times.

Buying online lessons

Lessons can be purchases at discounts in convenient packs. A new student should start with purchasing the 5, 10, or 25 lessons pack. The free trial session will be provided in the beginning of the course.

After the initially purchased lessons are completed, further lessons can be purchased as required through the student’s account at students.learnrussianineu.com.

Native Russian peer communication tutors

Peer communication tutors are not teachers and, as a rule, their service is a part of a teacher-led language course. Peer tutors specialize in running conversation on the teacher assigned topic or scenario, and can correct the student or give a hint, when required.

Individual online students can order native Russian peer communication tutor sessions using their student accounts at students.learnrussianineu.com.

Interactive virtual excursions

Daugavpils was once part of both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, and has a remarkable historical legacy tied to Russia and Russian-European relations. Daugavpils is located very close to borders with Russia, Belarus, and Lithuania.

“Learn Russian in the EU” always includes extensive excursion program into all our study abroad projects. We converted this rich experience into a unique portfolio of interactive virtual excursions.

Our virtual excursions include live narration in Russian or English and reserve a room for vocabulary, questions, and live discussion.

Individual online students can order interactive virtual excursions using their student accounts at students.learnrussianineu.com.

Is academic credit transfer available for the online study?

Yes, we can register students for academic courses at Daugavpils University and ensure the credit transfer.

Please consider our virtual study abroad programs, if you are interested in receiving university credits for your course.

Payments

We use PayPal to process your credit card payments. You can also make a wire transfer from your bank account.

Cancellations

In case after the first trial session a student decides to drop the course, we refund the initial payment.

If the student misses a scheduled class, we make no refunds.

If the student needs to interrupt the course, the request should be e-mailed to us before any lesson is missed. We can negotiate the dates for continuing the remaining part of the course, but make no refunds.
