“Learn Russian in the EU” offers personalized semester abroad programs designed for students studying the Russian language. These programs are hosted by Daugavpils University’s Department of Russian and Slavic Linguistics.
No visa is required to study in Latvia for citizens of the US, Canada, EU, and many other countries.
Program Highlights
Our semester abroad programs include two components:
- Core Course: Intensive Russian as a Foreign Language (interactive communication skills, grammar, phonetics) geared towards different target proficiency levels.
- Elective courses, depending on selected program: Russian Literature and Culture, East European Studies, Baltic Studies, History, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, and others.
Russian Language, Literature and Culture
- Two study modules – A. Russian as a Foreign Language and B. Russian Literature and Culture.
- Diverse elective options in Russian Literature and Culture.
Russian Language and East European Studies
- Two study modules – A. Russian as a Foreign Language and B. Eastern European Studies.
- Diverse elective options in Eastern European Studies.
Russian Language and Political Science
- Russian as a Foreign Language Study Module, provided at Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior target proficiency levels.
- Diverse elective options in Political Science.
Russian Language and Natural Sciences (STEM)
- Russian as a Foreign Language Study Module, provided at Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior target proficiency levels.
- Diverse elective course options (theory and laboratory practice) in Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Environmental Studies, and Chemistry.
Baltic Jewish Studies
- The program offers a variety of courses focused on Jewish history, sociology and culture in the Baltics, as well as models of Jewish self-consciousness and perceptions of Jews within other cultural paradigms. All courses included in this program will be taught in English.
- Russian language courses may be added as electives.
