Most Beautiful Places in Russia

Russia is a huge country which impresses with its space and a large number of natural attractions. We’ve selected the most beautiful places in Russia which every person who lives in Russia and every traveler to Russia should see. Now, let’s speak about each place in more detail.

Lena Pillars

Lena Pillars is a natural park in Russia, located on the banks of the Lena river in Yakutia. The complex of vertically elongated rocks stretches for about forty kilometers, and their height reaches 100 meters.

Lena Pillars

Some tourists think that Lena Pillars remind them of walls of medieval castles, others think of dragon fangs, or of stone giants. People from Yakutia think of the pillars as a symbol of love, bravery and honesty.

Today, Lena Pillars are included in the list of Russia’s wonders, and they are also a natural object of world importance.  A few years ago, UNESCO took under protection the territory where they are located.

The Valley of Geysers

Located inside the Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Valley of Geysers is one of the largest geyser fields in the world. It has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the natural complex of volcanoes in Kamchatka. The geysers are the main attraction of the Valley of Geysers.

They periodically explode up with streams of hot water and steam with the temperature of up to 95°C. In addition to small geysers, there are about 20 large geysers.

Rock Formations

The Manpupuner rock formations are a set of 7 stone pillars located west of the Ural Mountains in the Troitsko-Pechorsky District of the Komi Republic. This object has been enlisted as one of the Seven Russia’s Wonders since 2008.

Rock Formations

They are huge stone formations of 30-42 meters high and have a strange form. If you look at them from a different angle, they remind you of an animal, or a giant.

It’s quite difficult to get to the place as it’s far from residential areas and you can find many obstacles on the way, but it’s possible if you go there on foot or by helicopter.

The Curonian Spit

The Curonian Spit is a long, thin, curved sand-dune spit and a unique nature landscape that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast.  The spit goes from Zelenogorsk in Russia to Klaipeda in Lithuania. It’s 98 kilometers long, and 400 meters wide.  In 2000 the Curonian Spit was registered as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Curonian spit is a favorite place for all tourists who are attracted by its unique local nature, beautiful landscapes, and sandy beaches on the shores of the Baltic sea. On the same day, you can have a swim in the salty Baltic sea and in the fresh Curonian lagoon.

ЭТЮД О ДВИНСКЕ

Etude on Dvinsk by F.Fedorov

The Baltic region is one of the most catastrophe prone regions of the 2nd millennium, especially its second part; it is the centre of attraction of ‘geopolitical’ interests of the European world. Probably the most tragic fate has befallen to the eastern part of the present Latvia and its multi-titled town of Dinaburg – Dvinsk – Daugavpils. During its 730 years long history, the town went through five rather autonomous periods of development, five different lives (German, Polish, Russian, Latvian, Soviet), and at the beginning of the 1990s it entered into the 6th period.

The history of Dinaburg – Dvinsk – Daugavpils is the history of five attempts by the town to begin its life anew; and this is determined not only by the fact that the town was four times burned down and had to start life from scratch, but first and foremost because each of these periods was characterized by a total change of ethnos and the socio-cultural field.

The present article deals with the cultural space of the town in one of the most efficient periods of its development – from the 1860s till World War I.
